Ruth Marie Janz
May 22, 1927 - August 9, 2014
Ruth Marie Janz (nee Ewert) went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the age of 87 at City Hospital in Saskatoon, SK with family by her side. She was born to David R. and Helen Ewert on May 22, 1927 in Main Centre, SK. Ruth attended the Turnhill M.B. Church with her family. Later they began attending the Main Centre M.B. Church. She gave her life to Jesus at the age of 13 at an evangelistic tent meeting in Main Centre, and was baptized in 1944 in the Swift Current Creek near West Bank Bible Camp. She attended Herbert Bible School for three years, graduating in 1947. Ruth played violin and piano, and enjoyed singing with her Dad, sister, and friends. Ruth married Waldemar Abram Janz, on July 23, 1952, and they farmed at Main Centre. She loved her calling to be a farmer’s wife and worked side by side with her husband. As a mother, she considered it a blessing to raise her five daughters on the farm. She enjoyed being involved in the church, teaching Sunday School for many years. She was active in community life, participated in curling, loved picnics and visiting with friends. She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed entertaining guests, cooking, baking, crocheting, canning, and gardening. In 1984, they moved to Swift Current but continued to farm for many years. They attended Bridgeway Community Church until they moved to Saskatoon in 2005 where they began attending West Portal Church and enjoyed several years being closer to children. In 2011, after 58 years of marriage, her husband Waldemar passed away. Ruth had a strong faith and a determination to regain her health in the last couple of months, but God’s plan was to take her Home. She will be dearly missed by her five daughters, Kathleen (Blake) Penson of Saskatoon, Sandra (Leo) Derksen of Saskatoon, Jeanette (Michael) Schroeder of Calgary, Donna (Darrell) Schroeder of Saskatoon, Sharon (Jeff) Jenkins of Winnipeg; three grandchildren Bradley Derksen, Ryan (Melissa) Derksen, Rachael Schroeder; two great grand-daughters, Malaeh and Avery Derksen; extended family members Henry Froese, Arnold Janz, Elaine Janz, Hugo Schmidt, Rubina (Bill) Krestinski; and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Waldemar; her parents, David R. and Helen Ewert; infant brother, Samuel; sister Lois Froese; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Adelina) Martens, Art (Leona) Martens, Frieda Janz, Jacob Janz, Malinda Schmidt. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life was held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 315 Lenore Drive, Saskatoon, with Pastor Kelly Wiebe officiating. The family thanks the staff of Nurse Next Door, staff on 6th Floor of St. Paul’s and 3rd Floor of City Hospital, for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westbank Bible Camp, Box 1841, Swift Current, SK S9H 4M6. Arrangements entrusted to DALMENY FUNERAL HOME (306) 254-2022.
