BERYL JOAN MACKINNON
Beryl Joan MacKinnon, 93 - Sydney
Beryl MacKinnon, 93, a resident of the Cove Guest Home in Sydney, passed away peacefully on Aug. 16, 2014.
Born in Coulsdon, Surrey, England, in 1921, she was the daughter of the late Agnes and Frederick Newbury.
Beryl worked in the land army during the Second World War in England where she met her husband, Edgar, in 1943. They married in England in 1944 and as a war bride Beryl emigrated to Sydney in 1946.
Beryl was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker over their 65 married years. She was a much loved caregiver of Mary Elizabeth (Mayme) MacKinnon, deceased.
Beryl was blessed with a strong Christian faith and enjoyed the beautiful scenery and wildlife of Cape Breton. Her favourite pastimes were spending quality time with family and friends at their bungalow and boating on Sydney Harbour and the Bras d’Or Lakes.
Sorely missed, Beryl is survived by her brother Trevor (Pam) Newberry and family in England and by sons Stewart (Carol) MacKinnon of Vancouver, and Jeffrey (Mary Jane) MacKinnon of Belleville, as well as their families. She was predeceased by her youngest son David John MacKinnon and husband Edgar Strachan MacKinnon.
Beryl was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her family and by her special friends, Mary Coffin and Gill and Dave Forrester.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, at 11:00 am on Aug. 19, 2014. Private family internment will take place at East Mount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
