David Joseph Paul Sr., 34 of Waycobah First Nation passed away suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 in Waycobah.
Born in Sydney, on Jan. 10, 1980, he was a son of Theresa Stevens, Eskasoni and Wilfred Paul and stepmother, Yvonne Denny, Eskasoni. David was a carpenter, a member of Saint Kateri Parish, Holy Trinity Church, a member of and Deputy Chief of We’koqma’q Volunteer Fire Department and a Medical First Responder.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea 'Poopsie' Phillips; daughter, Hanna; sons, Scott Phillips and David Jr., all at home; stepbrother, Lorne Denny, Eskasoni; parental grandmother, Elizabeth Knockwood, Eskasoni; godfather, Ben Sylliboy, Eskasoni; several godchildren; uncles, Ronald Stevens, Wagmatcook, Gordon Christmas, Alex Christmas both of Membertou; Ivan Knockwood, Eskasoni; John Michael Stevens and Tommy Stevens, both of Eskasoni; aunts, Mary Jane Stevens, Eskasoni; Margaret, Ontario; Jackie, Irene, Norma, Georgina, Theresa all of Eskasoni; in–laws, Angela (Kenneth) Googoo, Waycobah; Margaret (Steve) Simon, Malagawatch; Carol Bernard, Waycobah; Richard (Dolores) Phillips, Waycobah; Al (Cindy) Gould, Eskasoni.
David was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gladys and Daniel J. Stevens; parental grandfather, William Bernard; uncles, Allison Bernard, Isaac Joe Knockwood and Daniel Jr.; aunt, Linda Ginnish; godmother, Anna Stevens.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd., Waycobah First Nation. Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 from Saint Kateri Holy Trinity Parish, We’koqma’q, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
