SMITH, ELSIE ALBERTA (HILL) - Berwick, N.S./Moncton, N.B. - Elsie Alberta (Hill) Smith, 93, Berwick, Kings Co., N.S., formerly of Moncton, N.B., passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Orchard Villa, Berwick. Born on June 3, 1921, in Williamstown, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Stanley T. and Nancy J. (Sherrard) Hill. Elsie prior to her marriage worked at the Lounsbury Furniture Store in Moncton. She was a member of the Anglican Church of Canada and the Frank H. Tingley Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star, Moncton, and was a Past Grand Adah. Elsie was an avid golfer, curler and enjoyed her gardens. Surviving are her sister, Audrey (the late Wylie) Russell, Berwick, N.S.; nieces, Joan Rand, Delhaven, N.S., Lynn Ferguson, Coldbrook, N.S., Ann Petropolis, Bedford, N.S., Joyce Potter, Loggieville, N.B., Donna Veinot, Sweets Corner, Lois Baker, Carelton Place, Ont., Linda Gaucher, Ottawa, Ont.; nephew, Earl Russell, Berwick; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold R. Smith; sister, Dorothea (Fred) MacTavish; brothers, Delbert and Samuel “Buddy” Hill.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at the home of her nephew, Earl Russell, with Rev. Tom Woods officiating. Burial will take place in the Miramichi Cemetery, Newcastle, N.B., at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
