David Alexander Hughes, 87, Amherst, passed away, Wednesday, September 17, at Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton. Born in County Down in Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late David and Margaret (Bell) Hughes. Alex emigrated to Canada in 1957 and was proud to be a Canadian by choice. He enjoyed gardening and he loved being in the company of his family. Alex is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Beatrice Mitchell; son, David (Joanne), Northern Ireland; daughter, Patricia (David) Warren, Moncton; grandchildren, Robert and Bailey Hughes, Northern Ireland. He was predeceased by brother, Robert and sister, Margaret.
