Patrick Brown

BROWN, PATRICK DONALD - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Patrick Donald Brown of Saint John, NB, which occurred on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Loch Lomond Villa. A native Saint Johner, Patrick was a son of the late William "Bill" and Agnes (Foley) Brown. Pat’s life was devoted to helping others, and those to whom he quietly gave his support and with whom he shared his joy in living are too many to number. The first to look at the bright side of any situation, and quick to tell a funny tale, Pat was renowned in his younger years for his prowess on the badminton court. He was a lifelong opera fan and himself sang for many years in the chorus of the Knights of Columbus operettas. Pat volunteered as a sports coach, mentored many who had substance abuse problems, and as Home & School president at East Saint John School worked with the late Eileen Travis to ensure that a branch library would be built in East Saint John within walking distance of the children of his community. Pat went to work for the Canadian National Railway (CNR) at the age of 14 during WW2, and retired a railroader in 1985 after 43 years’ devoted service. First among his loves was his family. Predeceased by his wife Shirley (Vienot) and several of his siblings, Pat is survived by his children: Lorna (Dale), Karen, Jennifer (Robin), Stephen, Linda (Mark), and Ann Marie (Karl); grandchildren Aaron Rector, Keegan and Connor Doucette and Katie; twin brother Mike, brother Jack, and sisters Olive and Margaret; and many nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John, NB, (634-1965) with visiting on Monday, September 29, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from Stella Maris Church at 12 Noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.fitzpatrickfh.com.
