It is with saddened hearts that we the family announce the passing of Etta Swain, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Oct. 2, 2014 after her courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, she is the daughter of the late Allan and Jean (MacIntosh) MacLeod.
Etta was a long-term employee of KFC Prince Street.
She is survived by her son William Swain, and stepson Kevin Riley, granddaughter, Nova Kelly (little boo), brothers Arnold, Mervin and Murray MacLeod (Debbie), Aunt Agnes Matthews. She is also survived by nieces and nephew, Ashley, Amy, Cortney, Allan, and step-grandchildren, Chris and Cheryl.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her common-law partner Reginald Riley, and brother Lynn MacLeod.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, from 12-2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Special thanks to Lizzie, Haley, and Olivia, for their frequent visits and always putting a smile on mom’s face. Also the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, 4B, and Dr. John Ritter, Dr. Chris Lawand, and the radiology staff, for all the care and compassion they gave to mom during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK Health Center, or the Palliative Care Unit.
