Catherine 'Kay' Isabel (Mitchell) Hartigan

Lieu de naissance : Pictou

Lieu de décès : Halifax, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 24 octobre 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce, our beloved Mum and Nanny, Kay, passed peacefully on Oct. 24, 2014, surrounded by her children.
One of 11 children, Kay grew up on a farm in her much loved Pictou County where she experienced an amazing childhood. Kay and five of her sisters were educated as nurses, as well as her daughter Jackie and were proud members of the same alumni, Sydney City Hospital. She and her twin sister Tina recently celebrated their milestone 90th birthday together. Kay devoted her life to her five children and was actively involved in their community, Sydney Mines. She was an IODE member and was a key fundraiser for the town arena and pool. For 29 years, Kay coordinated the town fundraising for the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation and became a member of the Provincial Board of Directors. Kay loved to paint and was a member of the Northside Art Society. She participated in their annual art shows and many of her paintings are now with family and friends. She was very proud of her contribution to the Sydney Mines Town Mural. Kay was known for her quick sense of humour, energetic lifestyle, ever present warmth and generosity. Her kindness emanated with her presence and people couldn't help but love her and care for her.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Eileen, Tom (Alana), Don (Susan), Paul (Paula) and Jackie (Allan); her sisters, May and Tina; her brother, Johnny (Hazel); her 10 loving grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Jenna, Mitchell, Ryan, Scott, Liam, Kyle, Daniel and Graham and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack and her siblings, Janet, Jim, Marg, Bill, Ella, Bob and Don.
Visitation for Kay will be on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dartmouth Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, North Sydney, with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Special thanks to staff at Melville Gardens for their loving care and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stoke Foundation, or the Alzheimer Society of N.S.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
"Mum, we will meet again, don't know where, don't know when...some Sunny Day!"
