STELLARTON – Owen Everett “Bud” Trefry, CD, MWO (Ret’d), 90, High-Crest Place, New Glasgow, formerly of Stellarton, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Ernest Albert and Gertrude May (Coffill) Trefry. During the Second World War, he served with The North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment from 1941-1945. Owen was wounded in action during the Normandy invasion. Upon discharge he worked at several jobs, reenlisting with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1954, serving in various peacekeeping missions throughout the world, including the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956. Retiring from active military service in the mid 1970’s with the rank of Master Warrant Officer, he obtained his stationary engineering certification. Prior to retirement, Owen was employed with the Province of New Brunswick School Board as a stationary engineer for several years. Due to active involvement in Europe during the Second World War, he was a keen collector of books, articles and movies documenting these events. Owen was proud of his service to his country. He leaves a legacy of honour, devotion and love to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Richard) Stevenson, Moncton, N.B.; Donelda (Michael) Dickerson, Fredericton, N.B.; sons, Brian (Kathy) Trefry, Fredericton; Marc (Lauri) Trefry, Lantz; sister, Claire (Ralph) Foote, Plymouth; brothers, Royce Trefry, Anderson’s Mountain; Kenneth (Lillian) Trefry, Smithfield; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Smith); daughter, Mary Angela in infancy; son, Allen; sister, Mildred Dean; brothers, Whitman, Francis, Harold and Vernon; a sister and brother in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton.
