Marian Quigley

Lieu de naissance : Habitant

Lieu de décès : Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Date de décès : 6 novembre 2014

Quigley, Marian Henrietta (nee Ross) passed away suddenly and quietly, on November 6, 2014, at the age of 93, in the presence of family, at the home of her son Ross in Toronto. Born in 1920 in Habitant, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Harriet (Newcombe) and John Ross. A graduate of the Maritime Business College, Halifax, she worked at Maritime Accessories Limited as a secretary for her future and now late husband, John William Quigley. After courting together in a canoe on the Northwest Arm, Marian liked to say she “married the boss so she could be the boss”. They made a home together in Halifax for 38 years raising 2 children. During that time Marian worked for the Halifax YWCA as their Program Secretary for 24 years. She and John were devoutly active in St. Matthews United Church. They started the Couples Club, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Marian was fully involved in the United Church Women’s group. Marian was delighted to retire near her childhood home, where she and John built their dream house in Kingsport by the Sea. They spent 29 wonderful years there, always giving back to the community and the church they loved. They could often be seen together swimming in the cold waters of the Minas Basin at Kingsport Beach. Marian’s favorite activity was her Thursday Morning Group with the “girls”. After 66 years of marriage and the passing of John in 2009, Marian moved to Toronto to live with her son and his family. Marian was a wise, warm, gentle and loving soul. She was much loved and will be very sadly missed. Survived by her son, Ross (Pat) Quigley, (Toronto) and grandchildren, Jason (Bedford), Christopher, Brandon, Sam and Lori-Ann (Toronto) and by her daughter, Diane (Kevin) Murphy (Seabright, NS) and grandchildren, Jeremy (Vancouver), and Jonathan (Redlands, California), and by nine great grandchildren. Predeceased by her infant daughter; sister, Minnie; brother, Clarke, and beloved husband, John. A memorial service was held in Toronto on November 11th at 1pm at R.S Kane Funeral home. Marian then returned home to Kingsport, Nova Scotia where a service was held at 11 am, Saturday, November 15th at the Emmanuel United Church, Main Street. Internment took place in the Habitant Cemetery. A reception followed in the Emmanuel United Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Emmanuel United Church, Kingsport.
