It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Margaret Cavell Johnston on Nov. 12, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Florence on Oct. 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Annie (Walsh) Kempt.
Cavell was a member of Wilson United Church, and sang in the church choir for many years. She generously volunteered her time teaching Sunday school, CGIT and Explorers in her early years.
Cavell is survived by three children, Eddy (Bernadette), New Waterford, Maureen (Brent), Bras d’Or and Elizabeth (Darren), Florence. Also surviving are brothers, Sandy, Elmer (Linda); sister, Marj (Tom) Millar, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was a loving grandmother to Joseph, Samantha, Mark, Rhianna, Tyler, Katelynn, Madison and Olivia.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Tony, Eldrick, Lindsay, Charles, Jack and Earl; sisters, Philomena, Bella, Edna, Josie and granddaughter, Rebecca.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at Wilson United Church, Florence with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Interment to take place in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
