Mary Gerbrandt, age 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 4:00 AM at the St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. Mom was born on March 26, 1924, at Gouldtown, SK, the middle of a family of 15 children. Mary and John H. Gerbrandt met on the flats of Saskatchewan and were married on February 28, 1943, and they had 70 years together. They were blessed with 12 children, 40 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild (give or take a few). Mom worked many types of jobs, including housekeeping and milkmaid, but most importantly she was a homemaker. She loved farming, taking care of animals whether big or small, gardening, canning and cooking big meals for harvest or for Sunday dinners. Mom worked for the Church of God Ladies Auxiliary doing suppers or fundraising. She was a prayer warrior. Mom not only raised her own 12 children and a couple of grandchildren, but was always watching and caring for all babies as they came. She made everyone feel welcome in her home. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John (age 90); her son, Gordon (age 32); her father, John Dueck (age 91); her mother, Tina Dueck (age 86); her sisters, Elizabeth, (age 1), Helen, Eva, Anne and Katherina (one year to the day, before Mary joined them in Heaven); and by her brother, Dave. She is survived by her 11 children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; her 7 siblings, Leona, Erna, Abe, Clara, John, Dora, Lynn and Jake; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mary will be dearly missed by all.
The Funeral Service was held on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK, with Donovan Epp officiating. The pianist for the service was Ruth Newton. “Nothing But The Blood of Jesus”, “Mansion Over The Hilltop”, and “Where the Roses Never Fade” were sung by the congregation. Special musical selections, “Unclouded Day” and “Stand and Believe”, were sung by Jake Dueck. Mary’s Great-Grandchildren sang “You Are My Sunshine”. Evelyn Kraway read the obituary and Andy Gerbrandt read the scripture and prayer. A tribute was shared by Judy Dyck. Great-Granddaughter, Keanne Hall, shared a poem. Ushers were Jacquie Tokaryk, Dianne Hall, Rhonda Yourston, Crystal Gerbrandt, Vanessa Gerbrandt, Trish Whelan, and Catherine Vold.The Interment Service was held at the Herbert Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Robert Dyck, Jody Gerbrandt,Wayne Dyck, Jamie Gerbrandt, Michael Gerbrandt, Dale Gerbrandt, Dean Gerbrandt, Gord Gerbrandt, Richard Dyck, Jesse Fast, Chris Gerbrandt, Jeremy Gerbrandt, and Kevin Gerbrandt.In memory of Mary Gerbrandt, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
