Gertrude Fleiger

FLEIGER, GERTRUDE ELEANOR - With a mix of sadness and joy we share the passing of our Mom, Gertrude Eleanor Fleiger, daughter of the late John H. Mooney and Gertrude M. Mooney (née Driscoll) in the afternoon of Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from her home on Park Hill Drive in Saint John, New Brunswick. She was the much loved mother of Susan Tessier (Francois) and Deb Edwards (Mark Walker) and the one and only sister to Fr. John Mooney and Frank Mooney, along with countless nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother George Mooney, Frank’s wife Rita and by the girls' father, Roger E. Fleiger. A graduate of Mount Carmel Academy in 1947, Gert worked for Pitman, MacKay, Ross for several years before joining School District 20 at its inception. She fulfilled the role as secretary for St. John the Baptist /King Edward Schools, followed by her exceptional years at St Vincent's High School until her retirement on June 30, 1992 and ironically in that year, School District 20 was renamed. To fellow staff, many students and countless friends, she provided support, understanding and wisdom with laughter and her never ending smile. Many will remember with fondness her supporting role cheering for various sport teams and her unwavering support of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gert’s pastimes included playing cards with the girls on Thursdays and enjoyed her involvement with the many functions of the C.W.L. Many of our friends adopted Mom as one of their own. Mom did what she did for family and friends in a quiet and unassuming way... never for attention, rather out of genuine love and caring. Her life enriched the lives of all who knew her with her humour, laughter, smiles, honesty and friendship...keep smiling, just for her.
