With broken hearts, we Stephen & Joanna announce the passing of our dear father Syl on Dec. 11, 2014 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Whitney Pier, he was a son of the late Henry and Lillian (Gallivan) MacIntosh. He spent many years running the family business, MacIntosh’s ESSO with his twin brother Myles and provided employment to several family members and friends. Syl & Myles were known for their many repairs to the cars and trucks of acquaintances, regardless of their ability to pay. He also spent many seasons with his son Stephen on his lobster boat, the "Della & Joanna" named after his daughter and late wife. He spent 40 years with his first love and wife Della and raised two beautiful children.
Syl is survived by son, Stephen (Dawn), Marion Bridge; daughter, Joanna (Darren) Hanson; grandchildren, Garrett & Aiden Hanson; Jake & Luke MacIntosh; brothers, John Henry (Betty); Willie (Kathy); sisters, Norma (Doug) Woodill; Heather (George) Townsend; Henrietta (Ralph) Johnston; sisters-in-law, Betty and Ada MacIntosh;
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Della; brothers, Myles, Mackie; nephews, Gordon, Dan Henry, Moe, & little Syl; nieces, Sylvia & Adele.
A memorial service to reflect Syl’s life will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. with Rev Ralph Johnston officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Paediatric unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
