M. Jean Miller (MacDonald)

Died following a life of service and dedication as a daughter, nurse, mother and grandmother. Born Nashwaaksis, New Brunswick, February 22, 1928; died St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, December 27, 2014. Daughter of the late Jennie (Pace) and Earle MacDonald, and wife of the late James L. Miller; Jean was also predeceased by special niece, T. Marilyn MacNeill, R.N. Jean leaves her children: James (John), Janet (Robert), Carol Anne, and John (Lynn); her grandchildren Christopher Lockwood, Sabrina Hardy Miller (Lauren), Alice and Will Miller; Elizabeth, Emily, Jamie and David Robert (Catherine) Pitt, and Oliver Kwan; and her extended family, including Barbara Gladding, Duddie MacDonald, Edith MacDonald, Greg MacDonald and Sandy MacNeill. Jean trained at the Victoria Training School for Nurses in the Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, and later studied nursing administration at the Issac Walton Killam Hospital, Halifax, Nova Scotia. She nursed 46 years, including at the Stanley Cottage Hospital, Stanley, New Brunswick, the General Hospital, Ottawa, the Hoyles Home, St. John's (as Nursing Supervisor), and the Janeway Health and Rehabilitation Centre (as Associate Director of Nursing) from which she retired in 1991. Jean was the nurse's nurse. Her warmth, capability and determination touched many lives, most notably through her steadfast care of her beloved grandson, Christopher. We thank the nursing staff and entire team of Health Sciences Centre 4 South A for their exemplary care of one of their own, and Drs. Barrett and Farrell for their treatment and respect. There will be no visitation and a private committal will follow cremation by Carnell's Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Rd.
