Helen Dawe

DAWE, HELEN MARY - October 7, 1926 - December 28, 2014 - Helen Mary Blackmore, the second of seven children born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Power) Blackmore of Grand Falls-Windsor, Nfld. Helen was born and spent most of her early life in Grand Falls-Winsor. In 1948, she married William Tucker and together they had 5 children. As well as raising a family, she worked in various capacities at the Central Nfld. Hospital and served on a volunteer basis with the St. Gerard's Guild, the Girl Guide Assoc. and the P.T.A. When `Bill` passed away in 1969, Helen suddenly found herself a widow at age of 43. Within a few years, she left Grand Falls, and with the family, moved to Sackville, N.B. to pursue a life-long ambition of going to university. She graduated from Mt. A. in 1978 with a B.Mus. Upon returning to her hometown, she successfully taught piano privately for several years before her retirement. It was during this period that she met and married her second husband Edward Dawe. They soon moved to the Moncton area and spent the next 15 years travelling and enjoying retired life. During her years in Moncton, she served as President of the St. Augustine's Seniors Club, as well as being a founding member of the Moncton Chapter of the Parkinson's Support Group. Bridge became a passion for Helen and she delighted in playing with friends online. Her greatest joy was being with her family and she took special pride in their accomplishments. Her yearly 'shopping' trip with her girls was something she always looked forward to with great anticipation. She leaves behind three sons, William Tucker (Marilyn) of St. John's; Dr. Gary Tucker (Nancy) of Sackville, N.B. and David Tucker (Heather) of Pasadena, Nfld. as well as two daughters, Karyn Martin (John) of Moncton and Andrea Quigley (David) of St. John's; two stepchildren: Karen Brown and Robert Dawe (Pam) both of Grand Falls-Windsor; also thirteen grandchildren, four step grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition she is survived by two brothers: Don (Isabelle) of Gander, Robert (Mary-Ellen) of Toronto, and a sister, Tess of Courtney, B.C.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor, Nfld. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital. Arrangements entrusted with Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton (506) 852-3530. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca.
