Johnnie (John) Friesen, age 96, our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 29th, 2014. Johnnie was born on November 23, 1918, to Mary (Veer) & John W. Friesen. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Wiebe on June 10, 1951. They have one daughter, Flora (Garry) Tyler; one granddaughter, Shalene (Aaron) Gerrard; and three great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Ryah and Brit. Johnnie always put his faith in God and his family first. He loved unconditionally and forgave easily.
The Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 2, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Church of the Open Bible, Swift Current, SK with Ken Friesen as MC and Rev. Aaron Gerrard officiating. The musicians for the service were Melanie Friesen as pianist, Ken Friesen as guitarist and Keanna Friesen as violinist. “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” was sung by the congregation. A special number was brought by Ken & Melanie Friesen and Skip Neufeld singing, “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be”. The ushers in the church were Don Gerlach and Harold Langandoen. The Private Family Interment preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Buster Harder, Lynn Rempel, Lyle Rempel, Burton Rempel, Elmer Wiebe and Leonard Wiebe. In memory of Johnnie Friesen, donations made to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
