It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Ron MacNeil on Jan. 9, 2015, at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook, N.L., with family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Beverly (McMullin) and the late Gussie MacNeil.
Ron is survived by his wife, Karen (Melenchuk); daughters, Crystal (Darcy) Lafontaine, Sudbury, Ont., Caitlin, N.L.; sons, Corey, Sudbury, Ont., Conor, N.L., Dakota, B.C.; sisters, Cheryl (Dan) MacDonald , Glace Bay, Lynette (Blaine) Cathcart, Glace Bay; brother, Trevor (Ella) MacNeil, Kentville; father-in-law, Mike Melenchuk, Wolfville; mother-in-law, Kathy Melenchuk, Wolfville; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Adrian) McIntyre, Coldbrook, Cathy (Rick) Mountford, Newport and Nicole, Wolfville; brother-in-law, Michael (Nadea) of New Minas. He was a proud grandpa to granddaughter, Jordyn (Corey) and expected grandson due April 2015 (Crystal) and was “Uncle Ron” to many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his father, Gussie, in Jan. 2014.
Ron was a retired Master Seaman (Medic) from the Royal Canadian Navy and was proud to have served throughout Canada and Lahr, Germany and belonged to Branch 13 Legion in Corner Brook. Also to his credit, he was a volunteer firefighter for many years in every community in which he lived.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.
