Evelyn Frances (Crowell) Lamond

Lieu de décès : Debert
Date de décès : 26 janvier 2015

Evelyn Frances (Crowell) Lamond, 93, passed away quietly at Debert Court, Debert, N.S. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2015.
For many, Evelyn Lamond and The Salvation Army are synonymous. At 12 years of age, Evelyn first attended The Salvation Army in Truro, N.S., where she was warmly welcomed. Even at this young age, she found where she belonged and her life was a consistent witness for the Lord through service within The Salvation Army. Evelyn came to Sydney Mines in the mid 1940s as a young Salvation Army officer.
For over 50 years, her life has influenced countless individuals through her leadership of Brownies in Sydney Mines and the running of The Salvation Army Divisional Brownie Camp in Sutherland’s River. Her faithful weekly visits to the local hospitals and nursing homes distributing The War Cry provided the opportunity to interact and pray with many.
Her organizational skills were also well utilized for decades with the annual Red Shield door to door campaign. Her ability to recruit volunteers spoke of the many connections she had established within the community.
Evelyn is probably best remembered for her giftedness in preaching. She would often be asked to guest speak at various denominations. She also conducted many funerals because of the connection she had made with patients or their families during hospital visits. Her words of encouragement were a blessing to many.
Shortly after her 90th birthday, Evelyn moved into Seaview Manor in Glace Bay. She grieved the loss of physically mobility because her spirit still deeply wanted to continue with the service to others which was her hallmark. In September of 2013, she moved to Debert Court where her sister is also a resident.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, John William; brothers, Ray, Phillip and Wallace and son-in-law, Winston King. She is survived by stepson, Donald, North Carolina, USA; daughters, Nancy (Frank) Masters, Centreville, Annapolis Valley and Diane (Peter) van der Horden, Halifax; three granddaughters, Erin (Ryan) Gillis, Beaverbank, Lauren (Scott) Davis, Sydney and Lindsay Bailey, Sydney; four great-grandchildren, Summer and Savannah Bailey and Nathan and Brady Gillis; sisters, Mattie MacElmon, Debert, and Jean Patterson, Maitland, as well as several nieces and nephews.
We want to express our sincere thanks to the caring staff at Seaview Manor and Debert Court for the love and support demonstrated during these final years.
Visitation to take place at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, officiated by Majors Kent and Dena Hepditch, on Sunday, Feb. 1st., 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Donations can be made to The Salvation Army or your charity of choice.
