STELLARTON - It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Christena “Chris” Emma DeYoung who died peacefully Friday, Feb. 20 after a brief illness.
Born April 12, 1931, she was the only child of the late Charles Herbert and Winnifred (Elliot Cameron) Falconer.
A lifelong resident of Stellarton, she retired from the Aberdeen Hospital after 42 years of service.
Christena will be remembered as a uniquely caring person who built very deep and special relationships with a wide cross section of people.
Well known for her cooking and craft skills, her sweets, preserves, and needle work brought great joy to many.
Committed to her community - particularly the youth - she was a devoted volunteer to many organizations, including the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, where she was the current President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was also a part of the Balmoral Girls Pipe Band, Stellarton Recreation Commission, and numerous other committees.
Christena is survived by her daughter Linda White (Jim), Dartmouth N.S.; grandson Jimmie White (Candice), New Glasgow; granddaughter Bea White, Dartmouth N.S.; brother-in-law Elmer DeYoung (Ann), New Glasgow; sister-in-law Blanche Fraser, New Glasgow; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Wally, daughter Lillian, chosen brother Robert Falconer, and chosen sister Lois Parsons.
The family wish to express special appreciation to Judy Fanning, Donnie Harris, Glen DeYoung and Dale Ward for the kindness and attention they provided to Christena.
They wish to also recognize the efforts of the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the professional care and compassion they demonstrated.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, 18 Acadia Ave., Stellarton.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Chris may be made to the Nova Scotia MS Society.
