Ken Dyck

Date de décès : 12 février 2015

Ken Dyck, age 61, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge, Swift Current, SK. Ken was born in Lucky Lake, SK on August 1, 1953, to Wilbert & Helen Dyck. Along with his two brothers, the family moved often, as Wilbert was employed as a farm hand and they lived where the work was. It was when Ken was 11 years old that the family settled in Moose Jaw, SK. Some of Ken’s fondest childhood memories were at Westbank Bible Camp where he committed his life to Jesus when he was 9 years old. He was 16 when he met his future wife, Evelyn McGregor, at a friend’s funeral. They were married on June 20, 1974 in Moose Jaw, SK. He earned his journeyman’s certificate for machining and worked in Calgary. In 1979, Ken opened a machine shop with his father, Swift Machine & Welding, which remained in business for over 30 years. He had an incredible work ethic and was a perfectionist, nothing was done until it was done right. He was also an inventor, designing machines for research stations which gave him the opportunity to travel the world, like Pakistan (which he would go on about for hours with a slide show, his family would roll their eyes each time they had to sit through the production). Ken & Evelyn raised three children in Swift Current, Melynda, Cheri, and Kevin. It was in 1995, that the family moved just south of the city to an acreage, “Green Acres” (as Ken’s mother named it). This is where Ken really shone...he loved coming home after work to his roto-tilling, mowing, weed spraying, or anything else that needed to be done. He built most of the house himself (with the help of his father, son, and friends) and could tell you how many pieces of drywall were in the house! His biggest joy of all was when the grandchildren were born. Ken lit up when they were around and loved them dearly. He enjoyed taking them on rides with his quad, jeep, and tractor. It was in 2009, that Ken was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and we watched him slowly change into a different person. We mourned this, but in one way we saw a good change as he grew closer to God.Ken’s family would like to especially thank all the wonderful staff at the Prairie Pioneer Lodge. Your care and love for Ken was wonderful, you treated him as a friend and not as “just another patient”. You made such a difficult situation easier, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Also, our sincere thanks to Pastor Alex & Gail, you were with us at every turn life took. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Wilbert (2007) and Helen (2003); and by his father-in-law, Bill McGregor. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Evelyn; his children, Melynda (Brent) Turner, Cheri (Michael) Nielsen, and Kevin (Jenny) Dyck; his five grandchildren, Sarah and Evan Turner, Madison Dyck, and Caleb and Elijah Nielsen; his brothers, Dennis and Brian Dyck; his mother-in-law, Esther McGregor; and by many aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, and nieces.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Alex Allan officiating. The pianist for the service was Sheila Braun. “In the Garden” and “Take My Hand Precious Lord” were sung by the congregation. Scripture was read from Romans 8:38-39 by Sarah Turner. Tributes were shared by Kevin Dyck and Noel Smyth. Special music was brought by Julie Chickoski and Kerry & Sheila Braun singing, “He Who Watches Over You” and for the recessional a recorded song by Wintley Phipps “No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus”. The ushers in the church were Lou Thiessen, Ellery Janz, Dennis Unvoas and Don Hudjack. The Interment preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Kevin Dyck, Brian Dyck, Brent Turner, Michael Nielsen, Noel Smyth, Dale McGregor and Dale Wiens. In memory of Ken Dyck, donations made to West Bank Bible Camp or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
