It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother after a period illness with his family by his side.
Jack was the son of the late Jack and Elizabeth Wheeliker. Jack enjoyed getting out for a game of darts, watching his grandson play hockey, hunting and fishing. He could often be found on his CB radio, he was known has "Jack the Ripper" on the CB airways. Jack was a Masonic Lodge member belonging to Tyrian Youth, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past Master of Thistle and MacKay Lodge. Jack was a Shriner. Before his retirement he worked for 38 years as a Crash Rescuer Fire Fighter for the federal government.
Jack is survived by his wife Patricia of 55 years, son Richard (Karen) Howie Center; grandsons, Tony Livingstone (Natasha) Toronto, and Tyler Wheeliker; granddaughter Kelsey Wheeliker, Howie Center; great-granddaughters, Sophia and Natalie Livingstone (Toronto); sisters, Ann (Alex) Spencer, Broughton, and Sheila (Joe) De Sousa, Rumford Rhode Island; brothers-in-law, Keith and Butch Spencer and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, John and Allan and sister Christine in infancy, sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) and Carol, brothers, Edwin and Graham, mother and father-in-law Dorothy and Aubrey Spencer and brothers-in-law, Gilbert and Hallie Spencer.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gallivan and the staff of 3rd South Glace Bay General and the Palliative Care Unit for all their support. We would also like to thank Cathie Napier O’Neil for all she had done for the family.
Cremation has taken place, as per Jack’s wishes there will be no visitation a memorial service will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Alexandra Street, Sydney, N.S. at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, with Rev. Martha Mac Donald officiating, a Masonic service will be held at 2:30 p.m. and a reception to follow.
