Suddenly and peacefully with his family by his side, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and dear friend, Mike Prokopie on April 2nd, 2015 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 80 years. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Iris (Wasyliw), his sons: Darrell (Holly), Brent and Roland (Trina); his grandchildren: Barrett (Chantal), Ashley (Graeme), Adam and Anthony; his great-grandchildren: Dominique, Liam, Charlie, Thomas and Nikkolai; his hrothers: Walter (Doris) and Orest (Judy); his sisters Pauline Tkachuk and Marie Slonski; his in-laws: Nick and Jeanette Wasyliw, Bill and Lori Wasyliw, Richard and Amy Wasyliw, Mae Wasyliw, Trudy Wasyliw and Elsie Pelech; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Prokopie, his sisters Edith and husband Tony Starchuk and Olga and husband Billy Balon; his brothers-in-law Frank Slonski and John Tkachuk; his father and mother-in-law Nick and Anna Wasyliw, his brothers-in-law John and Pete Wasyliw and Peter and Paul Pelech, along with nieces and nephews. Mike was born and raised in the Weirdale district on November 18th, 1934. In 1960, Mike married his loving wife, Iris Wasyliw and soon their family grew adding Darrell, Brent and Roland. Mike held various jobs including working at Burns Meats where he stayed until it’s closing in 1975. During the latter years while working at Burns, Mike and Iris purchased the first of three grocery stores. Mike and Iris remained in the grocery business until his retirement in 1994. During this time and while in business Mike became well known in and around the Prince Area for his sausage making and meat cutting skills. To this day people are still talking about Mike’s sausage. Mike and Iris had the opportunity while in business, to travel to such places as Hong Kong, Bahamas, Coast Rica, Peggy’s Cove and Rome, just to name a few. He and Iris purchased a cabin at Candle Lake in and around 1984 and Mike spent much of his time there remodelling and making it perfect for the family to enjoy. His son Roland spends much of his time during the summer enjoying the cabin. Mike enjoyed his fishing but had an equal passion for cooking and eating fresh fish. Mike kept his connection to his roots by maintaining a small hobby farm near Weirdale for a number of years. He was looking forward once to being surround by his family at Easter and bringing out a special bottle to celebrate to occasion. Mike will be surrounded by family and friends but with heavy hearts and fond memories. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 – 7:00 pm, MacKenzie Chapel, 130 9th St E, Prince Albert, SK. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 – 10:00 am, MacKenzie Funeral Chapel. Luncheon Too Follow at the Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans Club, 25 11th St. W, Prince Albert, SK.
