Walter Stockford

STOCKFORD, WALTER JAMES
Peacefully, in his 101th year, Walter went home to be with his Lord. Walter passed away surrounded by his family at Carleton Manor on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Born in Carlisle on July 26, 1913, he was the son of the late Beecher and Bertha (Crawford) Stockford and husband of Ethel (Anderson) Stockford.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Ethel of 67 years in 2010 and his youngest son, Hazen Robert, in 2005; three brothers: Charles, Roy, and William Stockford; two sisters Alma Stockford and Eunice Cook. Walter is the last surviving member of his family.
Walter is survived by one son, Wesley (Carol) of Northampton, and one daughter, Linda Hamilton (Paul) of Skiff Lake; and daughter-in-law, Jeanette of Jacksonville and five grandchildren; Benjamin (Lisa) Waugh, Marne; Andrew (Stephanie) Waugh, Yoho Lake; Tracy (Chris) Patterson, Newburg; Christopher Stockford, Botwood, Newfoundland; and Gary Hamilton, Canterbury and great-grandchildren, Benjamin (Colby) Waugh and Sadie Jane Waugh. He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Walter owned and operated a saw mill for many years in Maxwell. Before his retirement, he was a mechanic for Pattersons Equipment and George Macdougalds Chain Saws in Woodstock.
In his earlier years, he had a wide variety of interests which included fishing, hunting, and trapping. Walter spent many summer days in his vegetable garden from which he enjoyed supplying friends and family with its produce. In 2003, Walter was awarded the distinguished Queens Golden Jubilee Award for his dedication to his community. His love for his family and neighbours will always be remembered.
Visitation will be held at Scotts Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 2 pm with Pastor Trevor Savage officiating. Interment will take place in the Kirkland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Benjamin Waugh, Andrew Waugh, Christopher Stockford, Gary Hamilton and nephews Lloyd and Leonard Cook.
For those who wish, remembrances to St. Paul’s Kirkland Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
