SMITH, Albert Arthur – age 86, of Lawrencetown, NS, March 30, 1929 – June 9, 2015. Beloved husband, father, grand and great grandfather, uncle and friend passed away quietly at Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax June 9, 2015. Though born in Codys, New Brunswick, Albert spent his early years in Kings Lynn, England before his family immigrated to the farm at Brickton, Annapolis County where he spent his youth and raised his family. His love for his wife Verna, children and the Annapolis Valley was intense. He enjoyed farming, traveling in their RV, sports, especially hockey, painting, politics, crib or darts at the Legion and always being busy. Al was a dedicated member of the Lawrencetown Legion. He is survived by daughters Debbie (Bruce) Gillis, Paradise, Karen (Charlie) Whitman, Lawrencetown, Kim Smith, Brickton (the family farm) and sons Mark, Lawrencetown, C. Todd (Teresa), Langley, BC. Also grandchildren: Paul, Rob, Kendra, Glenn, Stacy, Shaun, Doug, Sarah, Stephanie, Kaitlyn, Levi, Quinten and Marjory and many great grandchildren. Albert is predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Verna (Griffin) Smith, infant daughter Susan, father Charles T. Smith, mother Annie (Wooding) Smith and siblings; George, Loftus, Monica, Ron, and Myrian. In keeping with Albert’s wishes, there will be a family graveside service held at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. A special thank you to the compassionate staffs of Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Veteran Unit and Camp Hill Center at the QEII in Halifax.
