WICKENS, Joseph Alexander (Sandy), 78, Bear Point, Shelburne County, died peacefully at home with his loving family around him on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Born on February 16, 1937 at Bear Point, he was a son of the late Etheron and Olive (Harlow) Wickens. He enjoyed coaching hockey and baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Tim Horton’s. Sandy made his living on the sea which he enjoyed very much. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Peggy (Stoddard); daughters, Marjorie (Bobby) Mathews, Barrington Passage, Fleur (Mathew) Nickerson, Barrington Passage, Chadsey (Daniel) d’Entremont, Lower West Pubnico; grandchildren, Jessica, Eden, Creed, Nate; brother, Allister (Judy), Seneca Falls, New York; sisters, Norma Goreham, Wood’s Harbour, Edith Stoddard, Bear Point, Luella (Kenneth) Welton, Truro. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Vernon Aaron; brothers, Earl, Arthur, Walter; sister, Louise Thorburne. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday from the Barrington Municipal Arena, Pastor Wayne Crowell and Pastor Edwin Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Birch Hill Cemetery, Bear Point. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society; Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation; C.N.I.B.; Bear Point United Baptist Church or charity of your choice.
