It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Spencer Drake, 76, on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Newfoundland, Steve was the son of the late Stephen and Violet Drake.
He was a fisherman for many years.
Steve is survived by his common law wife, Alice Payne; his sons, Gary, Louisbourg, Glen (Lucy), Bateston and their mother Marjorie; his sister, Marjorie, Marystown, Newfoundland. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Darlene MacDonald (Art), Sydney, Martina Harnum (James), Sydney, Garland (Glenda) Chant, Fort McMurray; his two step-grandchildren, Megan and Keagan who he loved dearly and his beloved pet Lilly; as well as his godson, Brandon and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Garfield, Levi and Maxwell, sisters, Winnifred and Isabelle.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff in the emergency room and palliative care for their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney.
