John Crowley

John Crowley

John Douglas Crowley, age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Swift Current Care Centre, Swift Current, SK. Doug was born on July 28, 1934, at Beechy, SK, to James & Margaret Crowley. He had two brothers, Robert (born 1931 and passed away same year) and James (born 1937 and passed away 1994). The Crowley farm is where Doug was to make his home. His dream was to go to Alaska but it was cut short when he met Pearl Swan. Doug married Pearl Swan (Morrow) with two children, Holly and Gregory Swan, as part of this union. Together they had two children, Jeanette Marie and Robert Douglas Crowley. Doug went to school at Jonesville and Beechy. He held a certificate for Heavy Duty Mechanic and Automotive. He was a good welder which took him to work on the pipeline in the Yukon, Alberta and BC. He worked twice at Lake Diefenbaker/Gardiner Dam for a total of 6 years. He was an excellent farmer. He could fix everything on the farm, and maintained his own equipment. He was also a carpenter and built on to the family farm house. One might say he was a jack of all trades. His best talent of all was reading and remembering. He could read something and tell you word for word about it even if it was some time later. He had a real passion for history and loved tinkering in the shop. He was on the RM Council for 10 years as Deputy Reaves. His home was a quiet place facing the Butte Hill, where from time to time a herd of antelope, deer and moose would come to pay a visit. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but always had a respect for the wildlife. Birds of all kinds and Hooter the Owl came every year and call out to Doug and he would answer him. He appreciated the large garden and flower beds that Pearl kept so well. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Margaret & James Crowley; his brothers, Robert Crowley, James Crowley; a son, Gregory Swan; and son-in-law, Paul Schafer. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pearl Crowley; daughter, Holly Schafer; daughter-in-law, Heather Adams - granddaughter, Krista Swan; daughter, Jeanette (Dean) Williams; son, Robert (Cheryl) Crowley - grandson, Vernon (Mallory) Crowley - great-grandchildren, Josh and Travis Crowley: granddaughter, Rosalie (John) Yanish - great-grandchildren, Leah and Tristan Yanish: and granddaughters, Jade and Lara Campbell. To maintain a family tradition of over 150 years a locket of Doug's hair and picture will be put in the family Bible. So long for now Doug until we see you again ... you will be forever in our hearts.
