It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Trish MacKeigan. Trish passed away at home peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2015.
Born Feb. 27, 1946, Trish was the daughter of the late Phillip and Catherine Lahey of Main-a-Dieu.
In the 1960s, Trish moved to London, Ont. with her sister Edith, and cousin (and best friend), Anna Lahey. It was there that she married her husband, George. They moved back to Cape Breton in the 1970s and had two children, Nancy and Brad, whom she cherished dearly.
She worked for the Fortress of Louisbourg Association for several years where she was well known for her charismatic personality, and brightening her coworkers’ days with her humour and pranks.
Trish was well known for her wit and great sense of humour. She was a mischievous, fun-loving person with a positive personality. Trish thought the world of her family and friends and kept those both near and far close throughout her whole life. She spent much of her time with her large family. She loved them all dearly.
Trish is survived by her husband, George, their children, Nancy (Brian) and Brad (Amanda); her grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Kaelyn, Brennan, Braeden and Rhea; her sisters, Edith (Harvey), Doris, June (Pius), Lucy (John), Beatrice, Cissy (Mike) and Ruby (Bruce); brothers, Clem (Georgina), Donald (Janet), Wayne (Janice), Wallace (Frances) and Bomber (Dawn); her sisters-in-law, Barb, Dawn Jane and Helen and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Phyllis, brothers, Daniel Joseph in infancy, Stanley, Cyril, Roy and Morley, brothers-in-law, Cyril, Lloyd and Piearce.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 1-3 pm at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
