Eric Matheson, 92, died peacefully in Ivany Place, Halifax, on July 29, 2015.
Eric will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Mae (Pearo/MacAulay); five children: Malcolm (Margaret), Kenneth (Dawn), Linda, Colleen (Alan), and Gordie (Neala); eight granddaughters; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Blanche Matheson, Mary Matheson, Agnes Matheson, and Gladys Walsh; brother-in-law, Lawrence Berrigan; his long time friend, Reggie Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, John and Ada (Hickox) Matheson, brothers Elmer, Jack (Alice), Homer (Jenny), Benjamin (Cathy), Major, Miller, Roddie, and sisters Eleanor (Herbie) Stanley and Isabella Berrigan as well as two bothers in infancy John Arthur and Arthur John.
Born on PEI, Eric was a sports fan, played competitive ball, hockey, & bowling well into his 60s. He enjoyed any competition, including a lively game of crib and 45s. Eric served in WWII as a radar operator on the Lethbridge and Kenogame. While serving, Eric met and married the love of his life, Mae. Eric enjoyed working on cars (or anything with a motor), helping others, and to visit family and friends.
The visitation and ceremony will be held in Sydney, CB, on August 4, from 1:00-3:00 at TW Curry Funeral Home, and internment at Hardwood Hills, Sydney.
