Firmin Schultz

Firmin Schultz

Firmin Henry Schultz, age 81, of Herbert, SK passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility. He was anxious to meet his Lord and Savior to whom he had committed his life. Firmin was born on January 22, 1934 at Herbert, SK, to Jacob & Frieda Schultz. He was the older of two boys, with his younger brother, Rudolph, born in 1946. They were raised in the ‘30’s and ‘40’s when times were tough and luxuries were few. Firmin and Rudi were very close all through the years. They were raised on the farm about 8 miles NE of Herbert and attended the local rural school. Firmin had a real passion for farming and loved kids and animals. He built a lot of farm machinery for Rudi to play with. He wasn’t able to finish school because of hard times and was needed to work at home. As he grew up he also found employment with local farmers and later farmed with his father and Rudi. They moved to Herbert in 1966, and after their father, Jacob, passed away in 1970, the boys continued farming, even renting land in Alberta for 5 years. They later went into the custom harvesting business and travelled as far as Oklahoma, USA. They also had a lot of local farmers that they harvested for, some for more than 20 years. In 1978, Firmin met Susan Heinrichs and they became soul mates until his passing. They enjoyed each other’s company and were always out for coffee and visiting family and friends. When Frieda moved to the home, the boys went there every day until her passing in 2003. After they quit the custom harvesting, Firmin went to work for Abe and Randy Voth on their farm. He still loved farming and enjoyed operating big new equipment. Firmin was happy with the simple life. He worked for what he needed, not for what he wanted. He didn’t need shiny and fancy. He was a quiet man with a heart of gold. After retiring, Firmin became ill with cancer, which he bravely fought until his passing. He also took care of Susan as long as he could, and made many a trip downtown for Chinese takeout. When he realized that they couldn’t be at home anymore, they were both happy to reside at the Health Facility. In his later months, he looked forwards to having scripture read to him and being prayed for. Whenever one would say, “So long, see you again”, Firmin’s reply always was, “I hope so!”

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm from the Grace Community Church in Herbert with Pastor Ed Schmidt and Pastor Lyndon Epp officiating. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and took place at 10:30 a.m. at the Herbert Cemetery. For those wishing, donations to Gideons International or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
