NEWELL, Pauline Margaret, 95, Newellton, Shelburne County, passed away peacefully at Bay Side Home, Barrington, on Friday, July 31, 2015. Born on August 18, 1919, Pauline lived a gentle, kind life and could be counted on to provide comfort and reassurance to all those around her. She was a member of the Newellton Sewing Circle, a faithful member of the Newellton United Baptist Church, a member of the Shelburne County Golf & Country Club (Riverhills), and later in life joined the New Horizons Seniors Club. Pauline was a sharp dresser, loved to read, crochet, sew and usually had a jigsaw puzzle on the go. Anyone visiting was invited to help find a piece on the board laid out on her card table. With gum in the kitchen cupboard to draw in her grandchildren who were lucky to live close by, and later on a bagful of toys in the closet for the great grandchildren to find, Pauline made sure her home was a welcome place. There are wonderful memories of shared stories and resulting chuckles. Pauline married Grant on April 17, 1937 and they raised two sons while growing the family fish business. This fine couple was always together and enjoyed time spent at the cottage in Beaver Dam, taking trips to Florida, golfing in Clyde River and watching baseball games. Pauline is survived by her sister, Alfreda, sons, Thomas (Jean Marie), Paul (Myrna), grandchildren, Leigh (Esther), Dick (Monica), Karla (Dan), Robbie (Patty) and great grandchildren, Tommy, Matthew, Kristy, Danielle, Sarah, Ryan and Quincy. She was predeceased by her half-sister, Ethel, half-brother, Keith, and then her husband, Grant in 1988. The family is very appreciative of the exemplary care and attention provided by Bay Side Home staff and all the extras they did. Visitation was held at the H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington on Monday, August 3, 2015. The funeral service was held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Newellton United Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Parker officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Newellton United Baptist Church or the Newellton Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to: or you may sign the guest book at
