Douglas Howard Stevens

Lieu de naissance : Sydney

Lieu de décès : Catalone
Date de décès : 8 août 2015

Douglas Stevens, 77, of Catalone, N.S. passed away on Aug. 8, 2015, with his family by his side.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Gordon & Alberta Stevens (Levatte).
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Keeping) who was always at his side and cared for him constantly during his prolonged battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He is also survived by his three boys, Scot (Andrea), Sydney, Sheldon (Anne Chiarelli), Ottawa and Gordon (Trina), Halifax.
He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jordan, Marisia, Thomas, Patrick, Olivia, Spencer and Maya as well as his step-grandchildren Raymond and Shaniya. He is also survived by his sister, Bette Bezanson (Bernard) of Marion Bridge.
He was predeceased by his brothers Gordie and Warren.
Lifelong resident of Cape Breton, Dougie spent most of his life in Louisbourg working in the family business, Stevens General Store until he retired in 1999. In later years, Dougie lived on Catalone Lake which brought him endless joy watching the wildlife and seasons change along the lake with Ruth and visits from his children and grandchildren with whom he loved to share his piece of paradise out on the farm.
Dougie loved being surrounded by friends and family, the more the merrier. He was a cherished guest at a party — always talking to everyone and instantly making new friends. Never one to turn down a game of crib, he tried his entire life to get the perfect 29 but was happy playing even if he got skunked. Dougie was a longtime member of Masonic Lodge, Mariners #80 of Louisbourg.
The family would like to thank all their caring neighbours who allowed Dougie to stay at home until the last few days of his full and rewarding life.
The family would also like to thank the doctors and dedicated nurses at the Chest Clinic and in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Laura McCue officiating.
Rest Peacefully, "Between Two Trees".
