It is with great sadness the family of John Parks, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Boyd) Parks and son of the late Frank and Edna (Brown) Parks announces his peaceful passing, while surrounded by his family, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 15th, 2015, after a brief period of failing health.
John was born on November 2nd, 1929 and was a lifelong resident of West Saint John. He began his career at the Ford Motor Company in 1949 retiring after 45 years as Plant Manager. John was also an avid gardener with a passion for flowers which led to the opening, with his wife Bette, of Lancaster Florists in 1952 and West Side Nurseries in 1956 and was proud it continues to operate as a family business with his son Kenney now following in his footsteps.
John was a very strong and dedicated member of Kiwanis, holding many positions, most notably Distinguished Lt Governor. He was also a lifetime member of St. Georges Anglican Church where he respectfully held the role of Warden many times over his years.
Although John was a very hard working man, he and Bette created many memories with their friends and family with extensive travel all around the world including and not withstanding; Russia, Ireland, and The Holy Lands.
John held dear to himself his treasured role as husband, father, “Grampy”, uncle, and friend.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Bette, Sons;
Kenney (Lynn), David (Erika), Stephen (Kim), Grandchildren; Michael, Mathew, Jennifer, Gregory, Scott, and Andrew, Nieces Jan (Brian) Thompson, and Lindy (Robert) McCullough, Brother-in-law George (Sherin) Boyd, cousin Lois Lutton and close family friends Kevin & Patricia Gleeson.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his grandson Ryan Kenney Parks, sister Constance Green.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Deidre England and staff of 3CS at the SJRH for amazing compassion and care given to John and the family.
John will be resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. on Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 from
2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The service to celebrate his life will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd on Manawagonish Road at 2:00 pm on August 19th, 2015.
