Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on August 20, 2015, Margaret Small (nee Crewe), predeceased by her parents, Hilda and Nimshi and by her brother, Richard (Ruth) and sister-in-law Elizabeth. She leaves behind her life partner and beloved husband of 56 years, John C. Small. Also left to celebrate her life are Margaret’s six children who will always have fond memories of their mother’s spirit and strength: Rosanne (Harold) Hussey, Kathryn (James) McCarthy, Bonnie (Andrew Blackadar), Stephen (Leslie Laforest), Darlene, and Nancy (Roth Niven). Also missing Margaret will be her devoted and loving siblings and their spouses Catherine (Del Miller), Ruth (David Brough) and George (Phyllis). Margaret’s grandchildren Rita, Andrew, Siobhan, Kaitlyn, Harold Junior, Colin, Scarlett and Magnus will miss her infectious laugh and generous nature. Also leaving to mourn are many nieces and nephews, her life-long sorority sisters with Beta Sigma Phi, her bowling buddies and her special congregation at St. Peter on the Rock, as well as a large circle of friends and extended family. Margaret is resting peacefully at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, with visitation on Sunday, August 23rd, between 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 24th at Margaret’s cherished St. Peter on the Rock (Shea Heights), where she was a proud organist and faithful worshipper for many years. She would be honoured knowing the service will be officiated by long-time friends Reverend Donna Mercer and Deacon Gerry Taylor. On Margaret’s behalf, John would like to extend deep, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joanne Bishop, who helped him ensure Margaret’s last few years at home were extraordinary and joyful. The family also extends thanks to the many caregivers who, over the years and during her last days in CCU, embraced Margaret’s kindness and tenacity, and laughed uproariously at her jokes. Flowers are gratefully accepted care of Carnell’s, or donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the SPCA in honour of her long-time love of all furry creatures.
