Smith, Burton
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Burton Smith wish to announce his passing on Friday, August 28, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Quarryville, NB, Burton was the son of the late Hiram and Barbara (Jardine) Smith.
For the past 40 years, Burton owned his own backhoe and heavy equipment and was known for his hard work and clean backhoe. Driving by St. Mary’s Grave Yard you would always see Burton with his backhoe digging graves. Burton was a member of Northumberland Lodge # 17 F & AM and was awarded the Beardsley Award and also a member of the Luxor Temple Shriners.
Burton was a beloved husband to Bernie (Donahue) Smith with an upcoming anniversary of 49 years on September 17, 2015. Beloved dad to three daughters: Deborah Lawton (Kevin) and Susan Raid (Tony) all of Saint John, NB and Karen Washburn (Chris) of Miramichi, NB; proud granddad to nine grandchildren: Courtney, Anna, Claire, Cole, Ryan, Jack, Kyle, Thomas and Frank; brother to four sisters: Gloria Johnstone of Red Bank, NB, June MacTavish (Donald) of Halcomb, NB, Lucy Rice (George) of Hamilton, NB , Faye Gilks (Edward) of South Esk, NB and three brothers: Sterling of Newcastle, NB, Robert of Whitney, NB and Delbert (Faye) of Millerton, NB and uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Burton is predeceased by his parents: Hiram and Barbara; three sisters: Margaret Johnstone, Diann Johnson and infant sister: Joan and three brothers: Frank, Jack and Beverly.
Visitation will be held at Bell’s Funeral Home on Saturday from 7-9 PM and Sunday From 2 to 4 PM & 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Service will be held from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Millerton, NB on Monday, August 31, 2015 at a time to be announced with Father Jerry Laskey officiating.
Burial will follow in the Miramichi Cemetery.
In Burton’s memory a donation may be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital or the NB Extra Mural Program.
