Michael Reiter

Mike Reiter, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. He unselfishly gave his children and grandchildren time to be with him in prayer while clenching onto Mom's angel, moments for which we will be forever grateful. Mike was born, Peter (Michael) Reiter on June 3rd, 1930, the second oldest of five sons to Elizabeth Mary & Valentine (Walter) Reiter, Luseland, SK. Mike and Anne's families homesteads were only one mile apart, 9 miles east and 1/2 mile north of Luseland. Mike received his education at Abbnot School, moving to Tramping Lake to receive his last 2 years before graduating. Although Mike and Anne were educated in different country schools they were close childhood friends. Mike continued his Education at the U of S receiving his Diploma in Agriculture, March 31st, 1949. It was during this time Mike formally changed his name to Michael Peter Reiter. Mike Reiter and Anne Schroh were married on November 28, 1951 in Edmonton, AB. They enjoyed their many years together along with their 10 children: Gregg (Doreen), Debbie (Doug), Kim (Erlinda), Donna (Bruce), Michele (David), Michael (Carole), Roxanne (Dan), Yvonne (Robert), Yvette (Mike), and Brad. They were also blessed with many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their immediate family totals approximately mid-70’s. Mike & Anne lived in Edmonton for three years, they moved to Unity for one year at which time Mike was hired at Scott's Experimental Farm April of 1954. They were also in Luseland at the family homestead. Then in 1967, they were transferred to The Research Station in Swift Current. Mike remained in Swift Current to finish his Career of 33 ½ years, retiring in 1987. Mike was always involved with their children's activities, he was a great hardball coach. He enjoyed lazy days with their children always swimming, whether we swam in the creek near our home or the 2nd Ave pool. It's been said what a wonderful man, what an amazing father, but especially an honorable, romantic husband. Many nights were spent watching hockey night in Canada with his children around him, and in later years his grandchildren. Together they enjoyed many visits traveling and gardening. Mike was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Anne; both of their parents; his infant brother, Anthony Bernhard; his sisters-in-law, Katherine, Agatha and Beatrice Reiter; his brother, Steve & Angela; his brothers-in-law, Mike (Miranda) Schroh, John Schroh, Joe (Betty) Schroh; sister-in-law, Katie (Paul) Flahr; brother and sister-in-law, Tony (Mary) Rambold; his grandson, John Michael MacLachlan; his granddaughter, Laci-Anne Powell; and by their daughter, Debbie Duff. He is survived by their remaining Children; Grandchildren; and Great-Grand Children; sister-in-law, Lena Schroh; brothers-in-law, Pete (Madeline) Schroh, Walter (Betty) Schroh; brothers, Val (Marie) Reiter, Ben (Janis) Reiter Bill (Lorraine) Reiter; and by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Our Beautiful Loving Generous (especially with his time and memories) Thoughtful Encouraging Gentle Spiritual Father gave so much to this world. It is in knowing how fragile life can really be, that we understand he is at peace, comfortable and breathing easy. Mike & Anne’s family wish to Thank Dr. deKlerk, the Staff of Southwest Medi-Center and the Medical Staff of Unit #3 at the Cypress Regional Hospital for their loving care. We would also like to thank the amazing staff that cared for our father for over the nine years, that he lived at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. They became family. Thank you and God Bless. We will miss Dad’s forever whistling, we usually heard him before we’d see him.
