It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend, Walter Joseph 'Chickie' MacPhee on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney after a brief illness with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Walter and Theresa (Meany) MacPhee.
In his younger years, he was active in baseball and hockey. Chickie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138. He was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends and neighbours. He sang karaoke for many years, with “Wild Thing” being his favourite. He will be greatly missed by all.
Chickie is survived by his siblings, Jeannette MacDonald, Natalie Sampson and Richard MacPhee; brother-in-law and best friend, David 'Duffy'Boudreau, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Diane Coadic and Kathy Boudreau.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 p.m. A celebration of life will be held 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the CBRH for their care and compassion given to Walter during his illness. Also a thank you to Janet, for spending time with Chickie while he was in the hospital.
