Early Christmas morning in Sydney, NS, a big man with an even bigger heart left us to be held in the arms of his grandmothers Sarah Dempsey, Claudine Basset, grandfather James Bassett and uncle David Bassett in heaven. David had a smile and laughter that was contagious, he filled a room with his presence. Unfortunately his heart was not able to keep up with him. David was a fiercely loyal man and full of love for all that were close to him. He had so many friends, many lifelong friends made through his love of baseball and bowling and also his coworkers from George Street. His love of tradition kept him close to his Irish and Indian heritage, often seen through his passion for Irish music. David left this world happy, successful and loved, for that we are truly grateful. Left to celebrate his life his loving family, parents Patrick Dempsey and Elizabeth (Bibby) nee Bassett, grandfather Patrick Dempsey, brother Patrick Dempsey (Jenny Hawley), soulmate Suzanne Lilly and son Joshua Lilly. David had a very large circle of friends and close knit family who are all devastated by his passing. His cousins: Christopher Dempsey, Angela Dempsey, Zachary Hayes (Melissa), Amy Hynes (Matthew), Lauren Strong, John Barbour (Jennifer), Morgan Hayes, Joshua Strong, Melissa Dempsey, Nicole Dempsey, Michael Barbour, Dennis Breen (Cindy), Monty Hall, Claudine Hennessey (Paul), Glenda Hall, Lyndall Bassett and Thaddeus Bassett. Aunts and uncles: Erin Dempsey (Gail), Carmel Strong (Robert), Gerri Barbour (Roger), Mary Hayes (Max), Noel Dempsey (Glennys), Sarah Dempsey, John Dempsey, Mary Lou Hall (Rod), Dorothea MacLaughlan (Craig), Cathy Steer (Ian) and Jane Paxton-Bassett. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home LeMarchant Rd on Wednesday, December 30th from 3-9 pm and Thursday, December 31st from 10 am - 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 2nd 9:30 am from St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crs. Cremation to follow.
