Flora French

FRENCH, FLORA
The death of Flora Rita French of Tide Head, NB occurred Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the W. G. Bishop Nursing Home in Minto, NB. Flora recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Born in Moncton on December 19, 1920, Flora was the oldest daughter of the late Willie T and Roselle LeBlanc of Memramcook West, NB.
Her husband, Don, worked for the Canadian National Railway and throughout their marriage, Don and Flora were transferred to many cities including Fredericton, Edmundston, Gaspe and finally, Campbellton. Settling in Tide Head in February of 1978, Flora became a life-long member of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Catholic Church in Atholville, NB and acted as a Lector at mass and Minister of Communion. Being very involved with the church, she held the positions of President, Past President and Secretary of the Atholville Catholic Women’s League, and always enjoyed attending local, regional, provincial, and national meetings. She recently received her 35 Year Service pin and wore it proudly. Her other passions included gardening, berry picking, line dancing and especially playing music. She was a skilled pianist and loved the American Standards. Whether playing War Tunes at the legion, St. Patrick’s Day songs at a senior complex or Christmas carols at CWL meetings, Flora played “her music” from the heart. Flora was always willing to volunteer in her community, and delivered Meals on Wheels until her late 80’s. Her community service and involvement made her an inspiration to everyone around her.
She is survived by her three daughters, Diane (Tom) Gillett of Chipman NB, Darlene (Steven) Lam of Delta BC, and Donna Mac Innis of Calgary AB., and her three sons, Michael of Brockway NB, Bill and Peter both of Nanaimo, BC, and her sister Rose of Dieppe, NB. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, David, Heather, Nicole, Rebecca, Jacob, Emily and Liam, and two great-grandchildren Abigail and James.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1982, her brother Gerry in 1993, and her daughter-in-law Amy in 2005.
A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the W.G. Bishop Nursing Home, and to her special caregiver Rita Mosey.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. In the spring, there will be an announcement of the time and date of a Mass of Christian burial and reception to be held in Moncton. Internment will follow in Memramcook.
