We regret to announce the passing of Walter Gillis, 85, formally of East Bay, on January 14, 2016 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on Sept. 7,1930 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of the late Colin and Regis (Camus) Gillis.
Walter was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys parish.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Carl and brother, Leo.
Walter is survived by his sons, Joseph, East Bay, Mike (Debra), Calgary, Walter (Norma), their children, Morgan and Ryan (Kathleen), Sydney Forks, Don (Michele), their children, Bryan (Samantha), Darcy (Hana), Kelsy, Shayne (Ashlee), Lantz, Leo (Amanda), their children, Colin, Michael, and Mary, Stellarton, Peter, Toronto, Hugh, Ross, Toronto, his son, Jesse (Jesse's mother Denise MacDonald) Surrey, BC, Stewart, Calgary, the mother of his children, Peggy Gillis, East Bay.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan.19, 2016 at the St. Marguerite Bougeoys Parish, 40 Cabot St., Sydney with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Reception to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery Fund, East Bay.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Sydney.
