Joseph Lloyd Rendell

Joseph Lloyd Rendell

Lieu de naissance : Mill Creek
Date de naissance : 30 août 1925

Lieu de décès : Sydney Mines

With shock and profound sadness, we, the family of Joe Rendell announce his sudden passing, which occurred Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at his home in Sydney Mines.
Born Aug. 30, 1925 in Mill Creek, Joe was the son of the late John and Emma (Shinners) Rendell.
Following his employment as a miner with the Bras d’Or Coal Company, Dad followed a different path and worked as a stevedore with CN Marine, later working as a steward on board Marine Atlantic’s many vessels, sailing from North Sydney to the many coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador, until his retirement in 1990.
Retirement was not a part of Dad’s vocabulary, so his work ethic continued, from lending a hand at the Rendell Family farm in Mill Creek, to mowing and shoveling for his many neighbours, who will miss him dearly. Dad lived a simple life, but a full life, independently in his own home.
Dad is survived by sons, Wayne (Linda), Bras d’Or and David, Sydney Mines; daughters, Francis Barrie, Florence and Pauline (Garry) Simms, Sydney River. Also left to mourn are his 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Big Grampie”; his brothers, Lloyd (Etta), David (Judy) and sister-in-law, Mary Rendell.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, Cecilia (MacNeil); sons, Joey, Stanley, Leo and Gerard; son and daughter in infancy; granddaughters, Meagan and Laurie Ann; sisters, May (Percy) MacGillivary and Ruth (Urban Smythe); brothers, Elric (Marion), Martin Albert, John and Cyril.
If so desired, memorial donations to the SPCA or Feed Nova Scotia, or a charity of one’s choice, will be appreciated by his family.
Joe’s family will receive visitors at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at 9 a.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
"Dad, I’m so glad that God in His infinite wisdom
allowed me to belong to you - to be your child
and your friend. More than anything, I’m
so thankful to have been given the honour
to love you and call you my Dad.
Forever in our hearts".
