Archibald, Ethel Florence, age 88, of Antigonish, formerly of Denver, Guysborough County, passed into the nearer presence of God on Saturday, January 23, 2016.
Born in Glenelg, Guysborough County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jean (Fisher) Hattie.
As a young woman she taught school in Lower Caledonia and Aspen, before marrying Robert (Bob) Archibald of Denver. She spent 25 fulfilling years working at Sherbrooke Village as a guide and later as assistant head guide.
Ethel put the needs of others first and took a keen interest in serving God and others through her church and community. She was a dedicated member of Glenelg Presbyterian Church where she nurtured children in Christian Faith through Explorers, and Sunday School—serving as Superintendent for many years. She also sang in the choir, and was an active leader in the AMS and Rose Auxiliary. In her community she faithfully served in the Home and School, Women’s Institute, and Sunlight Rebekah Lodge.
Ethel was gifted in a variety of crafts including knitting, crocheting, quilting, beading, and took pleasure in baking for the enjoyment of her family and community. At the RK she continued to enjoy her knitting and colouring.
She was happiest when her whole family was gathered ‘round the table. Hard work, courage, honesty, and integrity were the hallmarks of her character.
She is survived by her children, Gerry (Nancy), Fall River, Ella (Harold) Cameron, Miramichi, NB, Bonnie (Clyde) McGrath, Melrose and Rev. Dr. Tim (Joyce), Kentville; grandchildren, Eugene Archibald, Nadine (Drew) Arnold, Carla (Todd) Cameron, Sheena Cameron, Crystal (Sean) Hubscher, Robert Cameron, Michael Cameron, Megan McGrath, Dana (Emily) McGrath, Noah Archibald, David Archibald and Laura Archibald; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Ava, Bryson, Nolan, Ella Marie; brother, Cecil (Marjorie) Hattie, sister-in-law, Marion Hattie, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in ’85, and siblings, Stanley (Agnes), Ella (Hugh), Mabel (Joe), and Clayton.
Visitation will be Tues. 2-4pm and 7-9pm in Glenelg Presbyterian Church, Glenelg, NS where the Funeral will take place on Wed. at 2pm, with Debbie Stewart officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen. Family flowers only.
Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to Glenelg Presbyterian Church, Evergreen Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to H.W.Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Ethel’s family wish to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from compassionate staff of Cobblestone at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home.
