MAXWELL, E. MARIE
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Eleanor Marie (McGrattan) Maxwell of Saint John, NB, wife of the late John Rowan Maxwell which occurred on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Leahey) McGrattan.
Marie was part owner of the New Glasgow Pub. As well as being a member of the Children’s Wish Foundation fundraising team, she was with the Liberal Party of NS, ran for office and worked on various campaigns. She also sat on town council of New Glasgow to make improvements to the community.
She is survived by three daughters: Carol McGuire of NS, Christine Davis (Vincent), Catherine Driscoll (John) both of Saint John; one son: Jonathan Maxwell (Liza) of Calgary; three sisters: Nora Downey, Elizabeth Newton (Jim), and Helen Carter (Doug) all of BC; two brothers: Paul McGrattan (Maxine) of Doaktown and Thomas “Tommy” McGrattan (Betty) of Saint John; ten grandchildren: Alaryca, Raeleen, John William, Ryan, Mark, Joshua, Devin, Alex, Andrew and John Paul; three great grandchildren: Brynn, Kiernan and Aniston.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son Brian John Maxwell in 1994; one brother, Kevin McGrattan and one sister, Carol O’Brien.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John, NB (634-1965) with visiting on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 29, 2016 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place at Our Lady of the Lourde’s Cemetery, Stellarton, NS at a later date.
Remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
