It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Joseph Alexander MacFarlane, age 70, on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Joe was born in Alder Point, April 9, 1945, he was the son of Eunice (LeBlanc) MacFarlane of Alder Point and of the late William 'Fudgie' MacFarlane. Joe worked for a number of years as a fisherman and later with Brigg’s Construction until his retirement. His greatest joy in life was spending time at home with his wife, children, grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or.
Besides his mother Joe is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Beaton); his daughters, Jennifer MacFarlane (Lawrence), Florence, Keitha (Jason) Mansfield, North Sydney; his son, Joe (Gina) MacFarlane, Mill Creek; a daughter-in-law, Kristen Wagemakers, Vancouver; his grandchildren, Jessica MacFarlane, Tylor and Nichole Mansfield, Bryden and Kaeghan MacFarlane, Leilah MacFarlane, also by the light of his life, great-granddaughter, Lilly 'Booger'; his sisters, Sandra (Daniel) Snow, Wanda MacFarlane (Dave), Dianna MacFarlane (Darryl); brothers, Raymond (Verna) MacFarlane and Brent (Maureen) MacFarlane and a number of nieces and nephews.
Joe will be missed by his best friend, Creighton Briggs.
Besides his father, Joe was predeceased by a son. Greg, who died tragically in a car accident in 2006. Joe was never the same after the loss of his son and the grief he felt greatly affected his life. He was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Lillian and Nat Beaton.
By request there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one’s choice.
