It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Joseph 'Joe' Amos Doucette, age 58, a resident of Ingonish Beach, on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital, Halifax.
Joe was born in North Sydney, Jan. 19, 1958, he was a son of Charles Doucette and the late Mary (McGean) Doucette.
Joe owned and operated Ceilidh’s Variety in Ingonish and previously operated C & J Computers. He was the Fire Chief for Ingonish Beach for the past 21 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Ingonish and was a community worker who was always willing to help those in need. He was well known for his love of music especially his fiddle. Most of all Joe will be remembered for being the best poppy to his grandkids.
Joe is survived by his soulmate and best friend, Clara (Shea); his two children, who he was so proud of, his son, Mitch (Jen) and his daughter, Candace (Michael); his four grandchildren, who were his world and he loved being called “Poppy”, by Marcus, Layla, Jackson and Chace.
Besides his father, Charles (Ruth) Doucette, he leaves behind two sisters, Charlene (Greg) Lawrence and Kim Doucette and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother Mary, two infant siblings, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father-in-law, who was a second father to him, Austin Shea.
Visitation for Joe will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at the family residence at 29 Harbour Dr., Ingonish Beach. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church with Rev. Lazarus Guria officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
