Antoinette ‘Toni’ Marinelli, R.N. Antoinette ‘Toni’ Marinelli, R.N.

Lieu de naissance : Sydney Mines
Date de naissance : 3 juillet 1921

Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 1er février 2016

We, the family of Toni Marinelli, are saddened to announce her passing at Seaview Manor with her family present, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.
Toni was the daughter of the late Carlo and Mary (Rossini) Marinello. She was born July 3, 1921 and raised on Atlantic Street, Sydney Mines. She spent the majority of her adult life in Sydney. Toni had a great belief and faith in God. She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel, Sydney, a former member of Immaculate Conception and St. Pius X parishes in Sydney Mines.
Toni was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Glace Bay in 1945. She was a registered nurse for 70 years. She was employed at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney but most would remember her as Dr. H.J. Devereux’s nurse – a job she loved and did well.
Toni loved life and memories. She would talk often of being a competitive bridge player (stress ‘competitive’). As children, we remember many the card game on 52 Atlantic St. with her siblings and her brothers Vince and Louie, (none wanting to lose) would frequently say “sorry Joe” to brother Fr. Joe. They were all gifted with the ability to speak Italian, so these interactions were never clearly understood by those who watched these family events. The brothers and sisters remained close their entire lives.
Toni loved to travel and socialize. She spoke of her travels to Italy to meet the rest of the Marinelli and Rossini families; of going to family weddings near and far or simply to a friend’s cabin in Ben Eoin. There were many stories of adventures with her sister Angela, friends Ann Terry and Nora, only to mention a few. To those of us who had the privilege of a meal of ravioli, meatballs, pezzles, shortbreads and a good drink prepared and served lovingly by Angela and Toni – a memory was made.
Toni loved and admired her family. She is survived by Marguerite (Garron) Awalt, Halifax; Greg (Alana) Marinelli, Sydney; Marina (Russell O’Connor, deceased), Ottawa; Carl (Nadia) Marinelli, Dartmouth; Rita (Jim) Martin, Sydney Mines and their families.
Toni was the last member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Vince (Mary), Fr. Joe, Louie (Mary) and Angela.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
Toni’s family would like to thank all those who provided care and support to her over the years especially the staff of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, the Renal Dialysis Unit, CBRH, the EHS service for all their ‘to’s and fro’s’; you are all exceptional at what you do. We would also like to say a very special thank you to Jerry and Frances Gillis and Mary and Ralph Neville for their kindness and support over the years. As Toni would say to you all, “God Bless You.”
She lived a long a beautiful life…..we will miss her.
