Smith, Mary Elizabeth
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Smith at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday February 4, 2016. Born in Saint John, NB on August 21, 1923, she was the second oldest of ten children born to Francis and Annie Cullinan. She was predeceased in 2009 by her loving husband, G. A. Percy Smith. Betty was actively involved for many years in local organizations and sporting clubs. She supported her husband Percy in his legal and political careers. Betty loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her children, Janice Smith (Haley Williston) of Bay du Vin, Gerald (Nancy Jane) and David (Nancy Jill) of Miramichi. She will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren: Andrew Smith (Tasha), Elizabeth Smith (Josh Underhill), Mary Jane Smith (Justin Mellor), Alexis Smith (Scott Carson), Laura Smith (David Roy), Greg Smith (Wendy Li), Hannah Williston and Alexander Williston, and six great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister Teresa Chiarot and her brothers, John, Donald and Bernard Cullinan.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her brothers, Louis, Frank and Gerald Cullinan and her sisters, Margaret Whelton and Valerie Johnston.
Family will receive visitors at Davidson’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 9th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating on Wednesday, February 10th at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty can be made to St. Mary’s Church Cemetery Fund or to the Miramichi Food Bank.
