It is with broken hearts, we the family announce the sudden passing of our dear father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend Roddie Watkins, on Feb. 9, 2016 at the CCU unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Jean Watkins and was raised by the late Charles and Violet Libbus.
Roddie is survived by his best friend and partner, Brenda Williamson; his children, Shauna (Robin Krszwda), Terry, Tammy and Marcy (Joe Bicknell) Watkins, and stepchildren, Christa (Tommy) Trainor, Lindsey, Jessica and Cyril MacDonald; his grandchildren, Chelsea and Roger Best, Robert Candelora Jr., Karli Sawchuk, Lily Trainor, Mya MacDonald; great grandson, Kameron, as well as Brenda's father, Cyril Williamson.
He is also survived by her sisters, Esther (Alex) Tomko, Karen (Stuart) Boozan, sister-in-law, Madeline Libuss; 11 favourite nieces and six nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Joe Libbus and Charles 'Sandy' Libbus, and sister, Louise (Murray) Matheson.
Roddie worked with his brother Joe for many years as an auto body repair assistant. He was also employed with R.B. MacNeil and R&R Transmission from where we retired.
Roddie had a strong love for the outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed crafting and making preserves to sell at local craft fairs. In recent years, he and Brenda loved traveling south in the winter.
He will be missed for his mischeivous personality and sense of humour.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to take place at a later date.
