It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, George Jaques, age 82, on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 19, 1933, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Daniels) Jaques.
George had been employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney, retiring in 1993 with over 42 years of service. George devoted his life to his wife, June, of 49 years and his six children. He dedicated his life to serving His Lord and Savior. He preached on television, radio, and at various churches. He also enjoyed writing his weekly newspaper article and passing out tracks. His life was truly fulfilled by spreading the word of the Lord.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
George is survived by his wife June (Canavan) Jaques; by his five children, Sylvia Jaques, Rebecca (Carey) Phillips, Lorraine (Teddy) Kavanaugh and Lloyd Jaques, all of North Sydney, Wilson (Heather) Jaques, Sydney Mines, George Wayne (Angela) Jaques, Georges River; by his 10 grandchildren, Kyle, Curtis, Dakoda, Carey Ann, Nicholas, Sarah, Cody, Olivia, Julia and one great-granddaughter Sierra; and a brother Tommy (Myrtle) Jaques of New Germany.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Wilson, Joseph, Thomas, William, Ellis and a sister Margaret.
We would like to thank the palliative care unit, the Northside Guest Home, and special thanks to Dr. John Kirkpatrick for his many years caring for our father.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, Sydney Mines, with Joe Bernon, Melvin Bonnell and Pastor Jason Homan officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
